This state and city project celebrates the site of military encampments and bivouacs over the last 20 years. Just outside town the bend of a river formed a naturally protected area. A Visitors Center houses exhibits, a gift shop and a room for meetings and classes.
A sidewalk leads to a pavilion with descriptive displays and on to the memorial plaza. Here statues and plaques tell the history amid gathering spaces and the start of several trails along the river and to the primitive cabin replica.
